What is High Quality Work?
High Quality Work (HQW) at Launch is work that is complex, creative, carefully made, and connected to the real world. It is work that students are proud to show their peers, families, and their broader community.
At Launch, students create real work products. “High Quality Work” is the standard we hold for everything they make. It is how we ask students: Did you think deeply? Did you care? Did you do justice to this topic and to your community?
When work is high quality, it shows. You can feel the effort, see the thinking, and hear the student's voice.
The Four Standards of High Quality Work
Launch's High Quality Work rubric was built by and for our community. When we look at student work, we ask four questions.
Complexity
Deep thinking
“Did I think deeply?”
Has the student wrestled with hard questions, considered more than one perspective, and connected their work to big ideas?
Craftsmanship
Made with care
"Did I revise my work until it was excellent?"
Has the student paid attention to detail, went through multiple revisions, and put care into every part of the product - the ideas, the presentation, and the polish?
Authenticity
Real & original
"Does my voice and purpose come through?"
Does the work feels genuine? Does it feel made by a real person, for a real purpose, with a real audience in mind. Not just an assignment to turn in.
Liberation ✦ Launch's standard
Justice & belonging
"Does my work speaks to and for my community?"
This standard is unique to Launch. Does the student work honor the histories and contributions of all people? Does it challenge unfair systems?
